WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus. – Hebrews 3:1
Yesterday I played golf on a beautiful fall day and wanted to do well because it was probably my last round of the year. I thought about each swing before I hit the ball. I was not happy with my putting and thought about what I could do to be more accurate. The friend I was playing with and I discussed the upcoming presidential elections, the art of investments, and the mess in the Middle East. After golf, we met our wives for dinner and caught up with this and that.
I was going to say there was nothing inherently wrong with what I did, but actually there was something inherently wrong, given that I have an inheritance from Adam and Eve to stray from God. None of my thoughts were fixed on Jesus. I abandoned Him when my wife and I left the house and didn’t pick Him up again until it was time to wind down for bed, when the Holy Spirit convicted me about my lost day.
So what could I have done to keep Jesus in mind? That will be the topic of next Tuesday’s blog.
