The left bookend is the world as God meant it to be in the beginning. It is referred to as the Garden of Eden or simply Paradise.
Through the sin of Adam and Eve, Paradise was lost and replaced by the wasteland of a cursed and fallen world where death, disease, and destruction hold sway. Today, Paradise Lost can be summed up with one word – Covid-19.
The right bookend is called Paradise Regained or simply heaven, where those who are pure in heart and who have trusted in Christ as their Savior go when they die.
This earth is not my home; heaven is. I will soon complete my journey through the wasteland and should be packing my bags for my final home.
