I was sitting in the National Museum of Ireland, walking through an exhibit entitled Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising. I marveled at the dedication and singular purpose and passion of the men and women who were prepared to give their lives (and did) for the independence of Ireland from Great Britain.
As I sat on a bench looking at a panel of the Battle of Jacob’s Biscuit Company, the Lord laid on my heart this thought. What if I were to have the same dedication and singular purpose and passion to follow Jesus Christ and His forces to promote the establishing of His kingdom here on earth, even if it cost me my life?
I expect the revolutionaries of that day talked of little else than their plans to become a republic and the uprising they were planning for the day after Easter in 1916. Would that Christians today could have the same focus to claim the Republic of Jesus Christ by carving out His kingdom in a secular and fallen world.
