Before Shirley left to drive by and take a look, she asked the woman what her name was.
Then the miracle happened. The woman’s name was Annie, the very same Annie who had been praying for Shirley for the past two weeks at the bequest of Jessica. She offered to personally give Shirley a tour of the facilities the next day and answer any of her questions.
Shirley agreed to come the next day – but not just to tour the facility. She knew she had been touched by God and her reluctance to put her life on hold disappeared at the gas station. She signed into Adult and Teen Challenge that next day. She first started with the short program and then transferred into the long-term program because she knew she needed more than sobriety from drugs. She needed more of Christ in her life.
The Shirley I met that day was confident and joyful. She felt God had intervened in her life and she’d never be troubled by drugs again. From the shining look on her face and the enthusiasm in her voice and her love of Jesus and all He had in store for her, I was convinced her life would never be the same again. (this seems to be all the story, but there’s one more piece to tell – in my next blog)
