ROMANS 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
Do you have a catch in your throat when you read those words? How about the devout Christian husband and wife who lose a beautiful daughter whom they love more than life itself to a drunk driver when she’s only two year old? How can that possibly be good? Where was Jesus in that?
Luke 19:41-43 gives us a clue as we see Jesus weeping over Jerusalem and predicting that not one stone would be left on another. Jesus knew Jerusalem would be destroyed and that innocent people would be killed. Did He cause that to happen? No! But He knew it would because the Jews as a whole did not recognize the time of His coming.
I believe Jesus weeps over the death of that little girl. But it was not His will that she died. Never believe that! We live in a fallen world where bad things happen and none of us are immune to death, disease, and destruction. It’s our will, not His, starting with the sin of Adam and Eve and continued on by a wicked and degenerate society that worships itself and not God.
If things happen here that seem unfair, it’s a testimony that we were made for another world, a world where the loving parents will be united to their beloved daughter. In addition to weeping, Jesus will comfort those parents in their grief, and they will not curse Him but thank Him for His great mercy. Out of the tragedy, He is still working for the good of those who love Him.
