Put God First
Luke recorded in Acts 15, starting with verse 24, a letter the church council in Jerusalem wrote to the Gentiles in Antioch regarding circumcision and the law of Moses. The fourth sentence of the letter contains these words: “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requests….” Isn’t that the way it should be with us? Guidance from the Holy Spirit first and agreement by us after. How often we reverse the order when we decide to do this or that and then seek a rubber stamp from God.
A Christian friend of mine took a new job at a large company in Minneapolis. Then he asked God to bless his choice. I asked why he didn’t pray before taking the job, and he sheepishly shrugged his shoulders.

It seems very helpful to have the Holy Spirit’s guidance clarified and re-enforced by the church council in Jerusalem! Phil

Good food for thought. Nice way to start the day. I am going to mass this morning and will offer it up for you to continue to inspire all of us.
