PROXIMITY

The Holy Spirit wrote these words through James: “Come near to God and He will come near to you.” (James 4:18) If you want to understand the depths of Jesus Christ, you need to stay near the One who will teach you – the Holy Spirit – and listen to His melody. If you wander from Him, you will be unduly influenced by the world and your own natural self. The point James was making is this: proximity determines influence.

My friend Bob related to me a prayer given him when he was thirteen years old: “Lord, help me stay so close to You that I will always be sensitive to the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit and never stray so far I can’t feel Your presence.”
