New Life, New Plan

Tuesday, March 10th, 2020

You can’t have a new life with an old plan or no plan at all.

That’s what I tell the inmates I meet with who have just become born-again Christians. They can’t become the man or woman God wants them to be without a plan to stay near Jesus every day.

Danny tells me he’s going to read the Bible more, but that’s an empty promise unless he has a plan of how to do that. That’s where I come in. “Read John 14, 15, and 16 this coming week, and we’ll talk about what you got out of it when we meet next Tuesday.”

The next week, Danny tells me he set aside an hour a day to read those three chapters for the first two days and then two hours a day for the next five days. I look at his Bible and it’s highlighted in yellow, with notes in the margins. When we talk about what he got out of those chapters, I find he knows more about Jesus than he did the last week.

How is it with you? Have you made a promise to pray more diligently? What’s your plan to do that? Without a plan, it will be like a New Year’s resolution to lose weight that falls into the dustbin of your life by February 1st.
