MY SUBARU AND THE HOLY SPIRIT

I love my Subaru. When my car touches the center line to the left, it warns me with a beep, as it does with the edge line on the right. It keeps me between the lines and in the correct lane. If I start backing up and something is in my way, like another car, it stops me. None of these safety features work, however, unless I push a button to activate them.

I love the Holy Spirit. If I stray to the right or to the left of God’s lane, He warns me. If I backslide, He stops me. But His safety features do not come automatically. I have to ask for them. Here’s my prayer: “Holy Spirit, if I stray to the right today, push me back to the left; and if I stray to the left, push me back to the right. Keep me between the lines. And if I go backward instead of forward, stop me.” Some days there seems to be no end to the beeping and the stopping.
