All believers have two personalities. In Scripture, Romans 7 and 8 lay out the dilemma. One of our personalities is the natural self, which the Apostle Paul calls the flesh, and is our inheritance from Adam and Eve. The other is the spiritual self, which we claim when we accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in our lives.
These two selves battle within us for control all the time. We may be a spiritual self when we’re singing praise and worship songs in church and suddenly become the natural self when another driver cuts us off on the freeway on the way home.
There are code phrases for our two selves. The one is “I did it my way,” and the other is “I did it God’s way.” Which personality do you exhibit most of the time? In prayer, ask the Lord to show you which personality controls you in different situations and circumstances of your life and how you can change to be more spiritual more of the time.
