LONG WANDERING PRAYER
David Hansen wrote a book in 2001 that I have just now read. It’s called Long Wandering Prayer.
I have found praying without ceasing to be a command I am not well equipped for. Too often I use formulas – even the Lord’s Prayer – that grow stale with time. My mind wanders along ungodly paths, and I become bored after just ten minutes of prayer.
David Hansen had thirty years of long wandering prayer under his belt by the time he wrote this book. It’s not a concept for him; it’s a reality. And I learned from him to extend my prayer time by finding occasions and places where I can let my mind wander under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and move away from mechanical prayer into the very mind of God.
