In his latest book, Becoming the Likeness of Jesus, my brother Bill talks about [Jesus and me] as a unit. When we live this way, we live aright. He leads; we follow.
When it is [me and Jesus], we are on the wrong track. We lead and expect Him to follow. This arrangement is defined as a carnal Christian; that is, one who goes his or her own way. This is the position of many of the inmates I meet with, who were Christians when they committed their last crime because they put their own desires above the call of Jesus. It’s our position when we tell lies to get out or trouble or get mad at someone who rubs us the wrong way. These are the ones God wants us to disciple.
For those who live a life of [me only], they are doomed to a life of ultimate destruction. These are the ones God wants us to share our faith with.
