A couple of blogs ago, I told you about a man in his 40’s named Aaron, who is about as hopeless a case as I’ve dealt with. He reads the Bible and talks about God in his life, but at the front of the stage of life is always Aaron. And that Aaron is a despondent drunk who can’t help himself stop drinking. But he keeps trying. He wants to go God’s way, but he ends up going his own way.
Let me give you an example. Two weeks ago I gave him an assignment to read and pray through the gospel of John, verse by verse, and then we’d talk about what he read when next we met. He read only the first nine verses of John and then went flitting through Mark and Matthew. In other words, he did it his way.
There is no hope for Aaron, or any of the rest of us for that matter, in ourselves. Hope comes In Christ Alone. Aaron has not reached that point yet. I’ll be meeting with him today. Don’t pray that I can get through to him, but pray that the Holy Spirit can reveal to him that his true freedom from his addiction and life of crime is only found in the person of Jesus Christ.
