Anything we keep in our hearts in the place God should be is to have an idol, whether it be money, work, someone we don’t get along with, anger, a person or thing hated, a desire for something, a pleasure, or some secret hurt we will not let go. It’s not just images of wood or stone from the Old Testament.
If God does not occupy the highest place in our hearts, controlling all, something else does, and that something is an idol. Do you have an idol in your heart? Throw it out with the dishwater and put God first.
