BUT GOD…

Pastor Max preached on depression last Sunday, using 2 Corinthians 7:5-7 as his text. Paul’s body had no rest, and he was harassed at every turn. There were conflicts on the outside and fears within. Paul was definitely depressed.

There are many causes for depression, Pastor Max told us, and symptoms that range from mild discomfort to excruciating physical and emotional pain. Then he pointed out what he called two of the most important words in the Bible, found in verse 6: “But God…” He paused and said slowly and with much emphasis: “God is in control. He can take care of us as He took care of Paul in his depression: ‘“But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus.”’

He paused once again to let verse 6 sink in, then said: “But God… is much bigger than any of our problems. We need to let go of control and let Him take over.” He left us with this challenge: “Who is in control? Is it you or is it God?”
