BAPTIZED IN JAIL

Friday, May 25th, 2018

Shawn Tyler Benson is the young man who murdered a woman in a county park near Buffalo, MN. Four months after that, he pulled a Gideon New Testament off a book cart and asked for and received salvation. I wrote all about that in a previous post.

On Tuesday, I visited him in the Wright County Jail for the last time before he is sentenced on May 29 and sent to the St. Cloud State Prison. He told me at that time that he wanted to be baptized in the same jail where he was saved, and the program director is going to make that happen. She said it would be the first baptism in the jail to her knowledge.

So, here’s how it plays out. Shawn had his freedom taken away when he killed Cheyenne Clough, and he’ll be held captive for 26 years of a 40-year sentence. But he found true freedom in jail when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” – John 8:36
