Are you an N, an S, or both?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2020

“I know that nothing good lives in me, that is in my sinful nature” (Romans 7:18). “The mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).

Romans 7 and Romans 8 are a contrast between the natural person (N) and the spiritual person (S). The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to believers, and he is referring to himself in the 18th verse in Romans 7. So, the answer to the question in the title is that we are both an N and an S. In us lives the natural life (the old man or woman) and the spiritual life (the new man or woman). It’s a question of which one we allow to control us at any given point in time.

We live in a fallen natural world where sin is lurking just around the corner and the whole creation is groaning (Romans 8:22) with a virus that is the outcome of being in the bondage of decay (Romans 8:21).

So who are you going to be in this pandemic? Will you listen to the natural part of yourself and wring your hands in dismay at the disease and destruction that is rocking this land? Or will you let your mind be controlled by the Spirit and live in peace. Another way of looking at this is to ask yourself – am I living in Romans 7 or Romans 8? Am I going to be controlled by the N part of me or the S part? It’s your choice.

One Response to “Are you an N, an S, or both?”

Well said. The primary question you are asking is challenging and I have the choice. I am choosing ā€œSā€. My LORD is my Strength & Joy.
