ABOUT JAKE 2
A month ago, I posted this entry on my blog.
I had prison ministry last Sunday, with three inmates attending – Tim, Jake, and Jake. I had a sense from the Holy Spirit that something special was going to happen, and it did. There were two true believers who came in the door and three who left. The middle Jake came to the Lord near the end of our Bible study.
Yesterday, it was my turn at the prison again and Jake was there, with a big smile on his face. I always like to receive confirmation that a person’s salvation “has stuck.” Sometimes a supposedly saved one has an awakened soul but not a regenerative spirit. They’ve been saved in their mind but not in their heart.
I asked Jake, “So you’re one of us now?” He said he was. “And you’re happy now?” He said he was. As the Gideon lesson continued for 1 ½ hours, I could tell Jake was a different person than the last time we met. After the meeting he came up to me and said he’d read through Genesis and Exodus and was heading into Leviticus. I suggested he turn to the gospel of John to find out who Jesus really is. Off he went, Bible in hand, ready to dive into John. I felt richly blessed to see another young man safely in God’s camp.
