A SETTLED CHRISTIAN
I was discussing my book (Arm in Arm with the Holy Spirit) with a pastor’s group in Buffalo last week. Pastor Keith used the term “a settled Christian” to describe complacent Christians who are content with things as they are and not willing to step out of their comfort zones.
Pastor Steve said it’s as if they are asleep and prefer things to be the same as they have always been. “Don’t wake me up” is their mantra.
I have a friend named Jerry who says that he has a mission to wake up sleeping Christians. He has formed a men’s group in Michigan for that very purpose. It is an ecumenical group that listens to vibrant speakers and prays for change. “A few of them still need to wake up,” Jerry once said, “and I’m just the person to perform that function for them.” He chuckled as he told me some of his “waking up Christians” stories, within and outside of that group.
How about you today? Are there some Christians in your circle who need waking up? Have you yourself been dozing of late? Put yourself to the task. It’s what Jesus would have you do. After all, He was the Great Waker Up.”
